Helping to make the Event Green

Here is a summary of some of the ways that AWEA is helping to make the WINDPOWER 2011 conference more environmentally friendly: purchasing environmentally-friendly products for the conference; Utilizing electronic correspondence as much as possible; encouraging people to reserve a booth and register for the event online versus in hard copy; using an online abstract submittal and review process for the conference program; providing information to attendees about public transportation options; distributing the exhibitor manual in CD-ROM format as well as online; providing electronic session handouts before, during and after the conference through our website; ensuring there are recycling containers throughout the convention center for plastic, aluminum cans, and paper; working to set up recycling during exhibitor move-in and move-out days as well as using recycled and reused items including signage, banners, carpet, and booth materials; Reducing the amount of on-site printing required through new distribution methods for AWEA fact sheets; providing large water coolers instead of individual bottled water bottles; Collecting unwanted badges, conference bags and other supplies at the conclusion of the event to be reused, recycled, or donated;and incorporating an environmental survey into the site selection process for future WINDPOWER cities as part of a founding member of the Convene Green Alliance
