chris-varroneChris Varrone is a Cambridge-trained economist and former McKinsey consultant who specializes in wind energy technology. His firm, Riverview Consulting, Inc., advises technology companies, investors and developers on a variety of topics including strategic planning, customer requirements, product/market strategy, cost-of-energy modeling and financing. Recent clients have included FloDesign Wind Turbines (Waltham, MA), Boulder Wind Power (Boulder, CO), and Modular Wind Energy (Huntington Beach, CA).

A recognized thought-leader, Mr. Varrone has spoken at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi (Jan 2010) and the European Future Energy Forum in Bilbao (Jun 2009). His articles on wind energy appear in International Sustainable Energy Review (Dec 2010), Renewable Energy Focus (Jan/Feb 2011), and The Atlantic Online (May 2011).

As Chief Strategist, Technology R&D at Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s #1 manufacturer of wind turbines, Mr. Varrone was responsible for global product/market strategy. He was Vestas’ representative in the Roadmap 2050 project, whose report was submitted to the European Commission in April 2010.

A Fulbright Scholar in Norway in 1985-86, he graduated summa cum laude from Williams College in 1985, and holds the M.A. in Economics from Cambridge University, where his dissertation on “Metapreferences” was awarded the Gladstone Prize in 1988.

Mr. Varrone lives in Irvington, NY with his wife and three children. His first novel, Shadows in Summer, was published in 2009.
