New Research From Johnson Controls Indicates Energy Efficiency Is Still Important to Business Leaders, but Investment Lags

The Energy Efficiency Indicator (EEI) survey, a research report targeting professionals responsible for energy management, revealed barriers to investing in energy efficiency include: limited funding, uncertainty about future energy prices, government incentives, and energy and climate legislation.

Call for Papers: Academy of Management Special Issue and Workshop – Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability

The Academy of Management Review is issuing a call for papers for a Special Issue and Workshop on Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability. Two key research questions are: (1) how can social and environmental responsibility be implemented more effectively through integrated market and non-market strategies? and (2) how can the various business sub-disciplines (e.g., human resource management, management information systems, organizational behavior, marketing, and accounting) contribute to our understanding of the determinants of superior financial, social, and environmental performance? This special issue will promote the concept of theoretical metatriangulation, as expressed in previous articles on theory building in the Academy of Management Review. Contributions from strategic management, organizational behavior, human resource management, organizational theory, economics, political science, sociology, moral philosophy, and other disciplines are encouraged.

International Code Council Sustainable Building Technology Committee Call for Committee Member Applications

The International Code Council (ICC) Board approved the creation of a new committee entitled the Sustainable Building Technology Committee (SBTC). The SBTC is a committee that will be involved in the improvement of ICC Codes, Standards and Guidelines in the areas of sustainability and high performance. This includes areas of water, energy and mechanical efficiency, as well as new and renewable energy sources such as solar, hydrogen fuel cells and other systems. The SBTC will also serve in an advisory role to the ICC Board of Directors regarding the development of new ICC Codes, Standards and Guidelines.

World’s Greenest Data Center Opens in Frankfurt am Mein

In a milestone for green computing, Citi‘s newly completed 230,000 sq ft data center in Frankfurt am Mein, Germany became the world’s first such facility to earn the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating. The environmentally-conscious building, designed by British architectural practice Arup Associates for Citi, has already been honored for its ground breaking eco-friendly design and now it has been awarded the most prestigious rating, the LEED Platinum rating.

The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 18,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, currently has an opening for an individual with an interest in learning about nonprofit fundraising and management to serve as intern with its Fund Development Department.
