Kresge Foundation Announces New Environment Grantmaking Program

The Kresge Foundation has announced a new comprehensive grantmaking programs: The Environment Program. With the announcement of this new program, the foundation is expanding its commitment and narrowing its focus in each field for maximum long-term impact in its strategic areas of interest. The Environment Program addresses environment-related social issues, particularly those affecting minority, low-income, and other underserved communities. The Environment Program seeks to have tangible effects on the practices and policies associated with climate change and environmental sustainability. The programs are in the development stage; program teams will be refining their grantmaking focus and strategy over the next year.

Applications Being Accepted to Join the SustainUS Youth Delegation to The Fifth Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol

Agents of Change is now accepting applications to join the SustainUS youth delegation to the fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Change Convention and fifth meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP15 and COP/MOP5), which will be in Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7-18, 2009. COP15 will determine the future international policy on climate change, and youth must make their voice heard. Between now and December, youth from across the globe will organize to bring a sense of urgency and rationality to the meeting.

Applications Being Accepted for The Student Sustainability Leadership Award

This award honors an undergraduate student from an AASHE member institution who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting campus sustainability. The Student Sustainability Leadership Award includes a $750 prize. In addition, the winner of this year’s award will be featured in Sustainability: The Journal of Record. The award will be presented at the Greening of the Campus VIII Conference (Sept. 20-23 in Indianapolis, IN).

Property and Environment Research Center Graduate Fellowship Program – Bozeman, MT

PERC’S fellowships for graduate students and law students offer the ideal opportunity for those who are interested in researching issues related to natural resources and the environment. Graduate fellows spend three months at PERC in Bozeman, Montana, researching and writing a paper under the supervision of a PERC senior fellow. While there, fellows are required to present two to three seminars to outline, report on, and summarize their research findings. A paper of publishable quality is the expected result.

Call for Papers: Sustainable Ports: Fact or Fiction?

Global Port and Marine Operations will showcase technical and operational breakthroughs together with international case studies on the development of sustainability in global port and marine operations. In response to the challenge of ‘Sustainable ports: Fact or fiction?’, the chairman of the IHMA Paper’s Committee invites those interested in presenting a paper to submit a 400-600 word abstract on one of the following subjects: sustainability in shipping, sustainability in ports, sustainability in VTS and Harbour Master’s case studies.

Call for Papers: Academy of Management Special Issue and Workshop – Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability

The Academy of Management Review is issuing a call for papers for a Special Issue and Workshop on Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability. Two key research questions are: (1) how can social and environmental responsibility be implemented more effectively through integrated market and non-market strategies? and (2) how can the various business sub-disciplines (e.g., human resource management, management information systems, organizational behavior, marketing, and accounting) contribute to our understanding of the determinants of superior financial, social, and environmental performance? This special issue will promote the concept of theoretical metatriangulation, as expressed in previous articles on theory building in the Academy of Management Review. Contributions from strategic management, organizational behavior, human resource management, organizational theory, economics, political science, sociology, moral philosophy, and other disciplines are encouraged.

Conservation Fund Accepting Applications for Greenways Grants

The Conservation Fund, in partnership with Eastman Kodak and the National Geographic Society, provides small grants to stimulate the planning and design of greenways in communities across the United States. The annual grants program is designed to help establish a national network of greenways. Grant recipients are selected according to a number of criteria, including importance of the project to local greenway development efforts, demonstrated community support for the project, extent to which the grant will result in matching funds or other support from public or private sources, likelihood of tangible results, and the capacity of the organization to complete the project.

International Code Council Sustainable Building Technology Committee Call for Committee Member Applications

The International Code Council (ICC) Board approved the creation of a new committee entitled the Sustainable Building Technology Committee (SBTC). The SBTC is a committee that will be involved in the improvement of ICC Codes, Standards and Guidelines in the areas of sustainability and high performance. This includes areas of water, energy and mechanical efficiency, as well as new and renewable energy sources such as solar, hydrogen fuel cells and other systems. The SBTC will also serve in an advisory role to the ICC Board of Directors regarding the development of new ICC Codes, Standards and Guidelines.

Center for a New American Dream Responsible Purchasing Fellowships

The Center for a New American Dream seeks two, one-year paid Fellows for the Responsible Purchasing Network (RPN). RPN develops cutting edge strategies and resources to assist large institutions, including state and local governments, universities, and corporations, in purchasing socially and environmentally responsible products and services. Two fellowship positions are available – one starting immediately, one starting August 2009.
